EMPOWERING STUDENTS THROUGH LEADERSHIP & LIFE SKILLS

The Murru Youth Program is an innovative program developed to provide disengaged and at-risk primary school students with the opportunity to learn about healthy lifestyle choices, Aboriginal culture, leadership, life and literacy skills. Our program helps participants to live happy, healthy lives and engage respectfully within the school and diverse Dubbo community.

The Murru Youth Program has helped to build resilience and achieve success for more than 200 Aboriginal students participants since 2014. With the Program now based at Dubbo South Primary School, the program provides students with support, guidance and mentoring to help them reach their potential and live healthy lives.

PROGRAM AIMS

The Murru Youth Program aims to give primary school students and early school leavers exposure to local Aboriginal role models, mentors, and knowledge about local Aboriginal culture, leadership, life, and literacy skills. Through the Murru Youth Program, we assist participants to live happy and healthy lives, while also engaging respectfully within the school and Dubbo community.

The Murru Youth Program gives participants the skills, knowledge and self-esteem to engage within school and broader community, and to build aspirations and follow career pathways or further their education. We believe that all students have the potential to unlock their potential and reach their goals, regardless of circumstance.

LOCAL ABORIGINAL PROGRAM, LOCAL ABORIGINAL STAFF

The Murru Youth Program is run locally by Aboriginal staff, providing a unique and culturally appropriate program for school students and early school leavers in the Dubbo area. We are not funded by the government, relying instead on local support and donations to keep the program running. We are dedicated to helping our young people reach their potential and strive to make a positive difference in the lives of all participants.

FUNDING AND SUPPORT

The Murru Youth Program relies on funding from donations and sponsorships, allowing us to provide a unique culturally-appropriate experience for those in our community. With the assistance of our generous sponsors, we are able to provide a positive and engaging program to young people in Dubbo.

This important program helps students to develop the skills and self-esteem they need to engage in school and the broader community, as well as build their aspirations, follow career pathways, or continue their education.
